WELCOME TO B'JEWELED! BY LARA

I started painting because there was a lack of representation of black and brown women in portraits sold in home décor sections of mass retailers.  Inspired by bold colors and Donna Summer, all of her paintings are colorful and incorporate materials such as beads, feathers, sequins, ribbon, lace, artificial flowers, and of course big Donna Summer hair.
When a pair of old shoes were ruined and couldn’t be repaired, I refurbished them using gemstones.  Through this creation, I began to expand my work to beading dress form mannequins and making necklaces. While still a painter at heart, I believe the world of art is a limitless experiment, and look forward to producing more dope art.
